Life is a journey with no shortage of challenges. We encounter these through grief and loss, parenting and/or handling child behaviors. Sometimes things become overwhelming and we need assistance in learning how to manage stress and anxiety in order to regain a sense of control. We are here to help you!
Grief and Loss
From the time we are born, everyone experiences loss. Loss requires adjustment, and depending on where we are in our journey, that adjustment can be difficult.
Grief is the process we go through as we adjust to loss in our lives. The Mayo Clinic defines grief in this way, “Grief is a strong, sometimes overwhelming emotion for people, regardless of whether their sadness stems from the loss of a loved one or from a terminal diagnosis they or someone they love have received.” From child to older adult, everyone handles grief in their own way. Often this process can make people feel as if they are going crazy, when in fact they are progressing well given the loss they experienced. We can assess your situation and assist in working through losses in a way that is healthy and productive.
Children, Families, and Parenting
The family is a vital system to our society and is one that can easily get out of balance as we face the challenges of life. When one member of the family is not doing well, the whole family is affected. Children and their behavior are often at the center of the issue, whether the issue originates within the child, or the child is reacting to something in their environment. This can be frustrating to a parent or caregiver. Children express themselves in ways that adults often misinterpret and/or do not understand. We can come alongside you to assess and work the child and the family system to help address the challenge. We can work with children using play therapy techniques where they are able to express themselves in a developmentally appropriate way.
Stress, Anxiety, Anger, Sadness
Stress and anxiety and other emotions are normal parts of life, but can sometimes become problematic and overwhelming to the point of interfering with and impacting our lives and relationships in a negative way. Life does not have to stay this way. We can help you explore your thoughts and feelings and develop coping skills to use as we work to identify and address what might be the source of the issue.
Caregiving and End of Life
A natural part of life is death. Though it is normal, the end of life has a set of challenges and stressors all it’s own. Caregiving for a loved one through the end of life can be one of the most stressful seasons of life that someone can go through. We are here to help normalize and support people as they go through the season of the end of life or as they care for their loved one through this season.
School Related Issues
School is a great social institution that helps set the educational and social foundation for our lives. There are many natural transitions we must go through on the journey through the school system. At times these transitions alone can become overwhelming and produce problems like excessive worry or anxiety, school refusal, and truancy, to name a few. In addition to these systematic stressors, children and adolescents (and parents!) have to juggle the social pressures that come within our culture, which can be difficult to navigate at times. We are glad to help navigate through the many changes, transitions, and supports associated with this system.
